Since 2017, the Conservatory has been conducting a large-scale program on at least 18 peat bogs in the Massif Central over 4 years (2 phases of 2 years each) with the objectives of: — Carry out actions to promote the proper functioning of the peat water system and its conservation – To develop a good awareness of this heritage ecosystem useful to society. As part of this 2nd phase of 2 years, the knowledge improvement studies, the pre-preservation and the preparation of management plans account for 40 % of the project budget. The works and follow-up are consistent with 25 % of the cost of the project, with the particularity that large-scale works on the Ardèche peatlands took place in 2017 and 2018 (excluding ERDF funding Massif Central), and that 2019 and 2020 is the time for the evaluation of these restoration works. The continuation of event operations and awareness raising thanks to the dynamics and communication tools created during the first phase represent 25 % of the project cost. Some modifications of peat bogs for the reception of the public are planned during the 2nd phase. A special edition of the newspaper of the Conservatoire “Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes natural areas” will close the 4 years of the project and highlight the main acquisitions in terms of knowledge, experience, know-how and skills.
