The reduction of the seismic vulnerability of the schools of Port-Louis is a major challenge for the commune due to the very high seismic vulnerability of the current buildings, the importance of the local seismic hazard of Port-Louis (and therefore the foreseeable difficulties of crisis management in the event of a major earthquake). As part of the West Indies Seism Plan, the Regional Council is carrying out the reconstruction operation of the Robert Narayanan school group. The choice to rebuild the school group was the result of a study of existing buildings which concluded that they no longer met existing seismic safety standards. In addition to the seismic risk posed by the current establishment, a new hazard has emerged, that of a probable presence of asbestos in buildings. The Guadeloupe region has decided to carry out a drawer operation on the site in order to accommodate some of the students.
