19P01667 – ITI – ALENCON – HERITAGE HISTORY

The town of Alençon, a municipality of 26300 inhabitants, is a member of the Urban Community of Alençon (CUA), composed of 31 municipalities with 59000 inhabitants. Consistent with the historical and economic links between the city and the surrounding municipalities, Alençon is part of an ambitious cultural and heritage valorisation policy that results in the development of cultural facilities, heritage valorisation and active cultural programming. In 2010, the know-how of the Lace at the Point of Alençon obtained the inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. In September 2016, the large organs and buffet of the Basilica of Notre-Dame d’Alençon were restored after an exemplary mobilisation operation between the Ministry of Culture, the Drac, the Heritage Foundation and the involvement of local heritage associations. Recently these are specific commitments that the Cultural Pact, signed in 2015, commits to maintaining the level of funding for the cultural sector over 3 years. Resulting from the study of the tourism development strategy of the AUC, an action plan 2017/2020 has been drawn up for the implementation of structuring projects for the territory but also by the tourist office in particular for the communication and marketing actions it will have to implement to promote and sell the tourist destination. For the city of Alençon, the gateway to the territory, the main actions revolve around the valorisation of its heritage by relying on two pillars of identity: La Dentelle at the point of Alençon, inscribed on the representative list of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage and the canonised Martin spouses in 2015. A space of interpretation of the ducal history will integrate the development project of the castle’s exteriors. This offer will make it possible to develop proactive attendance and increase the visiting time of tourists thanks to an innovative mediation system. It was to this end that the city carried out a pre-programming study for the development: — a site of interpretation of ducal history within the future urban park of the Château des Ducs, – an urban path linked to the history of the MARTIN spouses, parents of Sainte-Thérèse de Lisieux and canonised in 2015. Also, the City wishes to deploy: * a digital device tracing the ducal history by including holographic content to visualise two reconstructed models of the Château des Ducs, * a digital application offering two historical routes around the MARTIN family. To carry out this project, as part of its policy of valorisation of the territory and given the exponential growth of digital uses in nomadism and the massive adoption of communicating terminals by the population, the City of Alençon plans to set up a free WiFi access service to allow users and tourists to enjoy Internet connectivity and digital service platforms in the main areas of the city. Beyond a mobile Internet access via WiFi, the City of Alençon wishes to offer users a connection portal to highlight the services it offers. The digital communication that will be carried out through this network will create value and image for the City of Alençon, and in particular will allow: to connect to the Internet for free on all high-traffic areas, to increase the attractiveness of the city and its environment, to allow a better understanding of people’s flows
