The municipality of Domfront en Poiraie asked Cerfrance Orne in Autumn 2017 to carry out a feasibility study for a collective methanisation project. The feasibility study, based on some fifteen farms, was presented on 30 March 2018 to representatives of the municipality and interested farmers. The purpose of the feasibility study was to clarify the cost-effectiveness of the project and to identify possible levers to achieve adequate profitability for project operators and funders. Following the presentation of the study, the group decided to continue the project to set up a biomethane injection methanisation unit. The group today consists of 18 farms located around the municipality of Saint-Mars-d’Egrenne, as well as the town hall of Domfront-en-Poiraie and Mr. Franck Moisseron. The farming systems are rather geared towards dairy, bovine and cereal production. The total area of the holdings is 2 600 ha. The overall milk quota is 15000000 litres. Since December 27, 2018, a company, SAS METH@DOMF, has been created to link structures and finalise studies to invest in the methanisation unit. The group has a plot in the municipality of Saint-Mars-d’Egrenne, at the place called “La Lande d’Egrenne” to establish the methanisation unit. This plot has the advantage of being at the centre of the farms associated with the project. The biomethane will be injected into the public gas distribution network managed by GRDF, which is 22 km from the project. Customers booked an injection capacity of 350 Nm3 of biomethane per hour. To facilitate communication and proper follow-up of the project between all partners, a newsletter “ Méth@news” is drafted monthly. 9 issues have been published since the company was founded.
