Regional heat expansion strategy in the district of Karlsruhe

With the climate protection concept amended in 2021, the district of Karlsruhe aims to establish a climate-neutral energy supply by 2035. It is particularly important to focus the heating sector, as it is responsible for almost 50 % of total emissions from energy-related CO2 emissions in the district. The regional heat expansion strategy addresses all the needs, data and results of numerous municipal and circular concepts and processes, bundles them and brings them together to form an overall concept of regional heat supply. This creates legal and planning certainty for the municipalities of the district of Karlsruhe for a successful heat transition. The focus of the project is on the feasibility of heating networks and their inter-municipal connection in the district of Karlsruhe, as the potential for energy generation within the heating sector can only be used by means of a line-linked heat supply.
