Component U of the Project Group Machining Technologies in Lightweight Construction of Fraunhofer IPA Stuttgart (BTU)

In this new research building, processes are developed for and with industry, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, with the aim of reducing the consumption of energy and materials in production sustainably. To achieve this goal, machine components are developed that require fewer materials and have a low weight. Thanks to these lightweight construction measures, machines and plants save energy during operation. At the same time, manufacturing processes are being researched with industry, which make it possible to efficiently process lightweight materials such as CFRP or aluminium. This makes these lightweight materials more cost-effective and can be used economically in areas such as electromobility, aviation, wind energy and mechanical engineering.
