The local municipality of Maikammer is planning to create a barrier-free footpath guidance system in the municipality of Maikammer. In addition to the signage according to the nationwide “Guide to barrier-free signage of footpath guidance systems”, structural investments to create accessibility within the framework of the footpath guidance system are planned. The aim is that guests with physical limitations can navigate as barrier-free as possible in the local community. The footpath guidance system leads in a tourist route through the middle of Maikammer from the parking deck through the lavender garden at Franzplatz to the town hall, and back to the market square and past the new Tourist Info, the wine shop of the local winegrowers and various catering and hotel establishments. As a connecting element, the project will be integrated as part of the redesign of the marketplace and Marktstraße as well as the relocation and conversion of the new barrier-free digital tourist information. The project will be implemented in coordination with the local communities of St. Martin and Kirrweiler. In addition, the same footpath guidance system is also implemented in Deidesheim and Neustadt adW, thus the supralocal effectiveness is given. The planned guidance system will connect the elements of the basic infrastructure and the sights in Maikammer on accessible paths for the first time and will allow the guest to have an independent and easy orientation in the local community. Due to its high recognition effect and good recognisability, several guest groups benefit. When planning the control system, the interests of the following guest groups were taken into account: • People with walking disabilities • wheelchair users • People with visual impairments • Families with strollers • Seniors In addition, all guests in Maikammer benefit from a clear and clear pedestrian guidance system. The project closes a gap in the tourist service chain in the areas of “arrival and departure” and “arrival and orientation”.
