Since 2009, the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park has been part of the UNESCO Wadden Sea transnational World Heritage Site. With this internationally renowned award, the region has received a unique tourist unique selling point, which not only increases Schleswig-Holstein’s attractiveness as a holiday destination for natural and culturally passionate target groups, but also strengthens its regional and national identity. However, the sustainable, touristic evaluation of this globally known predicate has only partially succeeded. The project "Visualisation of the Wadden Sea World Heritage: World Heritage Pillars" establishes a link between tourism use and protection through the comprehensive installation of interactive World Heritage Information Units (pillars). The aim is to raise awareness of the unique natural area of the Wadden Sea and its conservation status among locals and guests and to generate appreciation.
