After being crossed by the now deviated National 7, the town centre suffers from an organisation that was used to accommodate dense road traffic. The town is labeled Village Etape and must highlight its village with tourists. The municipality of Varennes-sur-Allier is also committed to a policy of revitalizing its territory by strengthening the commercial fabric of the village. The renovation of public spaces in the centre of the town stems from a desire on the part of elected officials to adapt public spaces to climate change in order to reduce water consumption and reduce heat islands in the centre of the town. The development project will make it possible to dewater 5,600 m2 of floor space. Roofs of public buildings may also be disconnected from the rain network.
