Research in extreme conditions of pressure and temperature is a very dynamic scientific field at the international level that addresses fundamental questions in Earth and other planetary sciences, condensed matter physics, solid-state chemistry and materials science. Studies of the properties of geological materials in conditions in the interior of the Earth improve the understanding of the structure, composition and dynamics of the earth from its formation to the present day. At the same time, high-pressure technologies are at the centre of applied research aimed at developing new materials and new methods of synthesis for innovative materials in many industrial fields: energy, materials (metals, alloys), polymers, etc. The main objective of the project is the acquisition of an innovative technology dedicated to ultra-high pressures that will be installed within the high pressure and high temperature platform of the Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans (platform labeled National Instrument CNRS - Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers). This new equipment will maintain the leadership of the Clermont-Ferrand site at the national level and compete with the best international laboratories in Japan, Germany, or the USA.
