Thermalism is a key element of the identity of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. However, the links between therapeutic indications, perceived well-being, physico-chemical and microbiological characteristics of waters (or "water signature") have been insufficiently explored. This information is essential to optimally position thermal treatments in the context of global change (pollution, decrease or dilution of water resources, sharing of uses, etc.). On the other hand, current health policies place increasing importance on health promotion and prevention, in order to enable each individual to develop behaviour that is favourable to his or her health. To date, the current spas could be places of reception for these programs oriented towards global health. This positioning requires an evaluation of the existing and the construction of new care pathways. The current challenge is therefore to rethink the preservation of the thermal resource as a factor closely related to human health. The innovative approach of the THERMUSS project is to consider as welcoming places integrated into ecosystems guaranteeing sustainable territorial development and especially facilitating the promotion of global health.
