The operation is led by the Syndicat Mixte de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement de Guadeloupe. It concerns work in the town centre of Petit-Canal, which has a particularity related to its supply of drinking water. Indeed, it is fed by a single cast iron pipe, dating from the 1990s. This pipeline starts from the village, under the RN6, to the crossroads of Maisoncelle, where the supply is doubled by a pipe 125 mm in diameter coming from Bazin / Balin, and another coming from Dumaine. The current pipes in the village are dilapidated and fragile, with recurring leaks that limit their effectiveness. In 2017, distribution losses were estimated at 120.83 m3 per day, or 44,104 m3 per year. The section to be renewed starts at the entrance to the town and covers all municipal roads over a distance of 12 km. The new pipe will be installed in parallel with the existing one, while respecting the constraints related to the roadway and the shoulders. The work will include: • Supply and installation of 12 000 m of ductile cast iron pipe from DN 63 to 125. • The resumption of 1,030 special connections. • The connection to the existing network made by SMGEAG. • Rehabilitation of the trenches in the same way. Due to the installation of a collective sewerage system in the town centre of Petit-Canal in 2024, work on the renewal of the drinking water distribution network will be carried out simultaneously.
