The sludge dewatering operation of the Pointe-à-Donne wastewater treatment plant is carried out by the Syndicat Mixte de Gestion de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement de Guadeloupe (SMGEAG). The resort is located by the sea in the industrial area of Jarry in Baie-Mahault. It has a theoretical processing capacity of 100,000 population equivalents. This capacity is divided into two tranches of 50,000 population equivalents, the first carried out in 1979 and the second in 1989. It treats effluents from Pointe-à-Pitre, the urban area of the Abymes, as well as the districts of Moudong, Houëlbourg, Convenance in Baie-Mahault, and Arnouville in Petit-Bourg. Several audits have been conducted on this wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), resulting in the development of phased and prioritized work programs. One of the key phases is to rehabilitate the sludge dewatering system, which is currently out of service. Initially initiated by Eau d'Excellence, the operation was taken over by SMGEAG as of 1 September 2021. Work in progress includes: •The removal of existing strip presses; •Provision and installation of two centrifuges; •Hydraulic connections; •Electrical connections and control/command systems. This work aims to modernize and make functional the sludge dewatering process, helping to improve wastewater treatment in the region.
