At Guadeloupe level, run-of-river or drinking-water hydroelectric production benefits from favourable operating times which make it possible to ensure the stability of the network and the reliability of electricity supply. In order to further develop hydropower, a promising technological sector with long experience and some of the lowest production costs, COULISSE has decided to acquire a new micro-hydropower plant in the territory. That new installation is capable of recovering the driving force of the raw rivers of the Saint-Louis River, from the Partiteur 2 plant in Baillif to the Beauvallon plant in Basse-Terre, and converting it into electricity, via a hydroelectric turbine. Thanks to its 200kVA production capacity, the COULISSE micro-hydroelectric power plant will be a reliable source of energy to meet the estimated annual energy demand of 800,00kWh of nearly 450 households in the Saint-Louis area of Baillif. In short, COULISSE aims to develop this energy source for both: ▪ Strengthen Guadeloupe’s energy autonomy by making reasonable use of the natural resources present in abundance in the territory; ▪ Reduce the dependence of the territory on fossil fuels in its energy mix; ▪ Preserving ecosystems by emitting neither CO2 nor polluting gases
