The objective of this aid is, in particular, to reduce the cost of freight for raw materials and other supplies which cannot be found on the local market and which the company must inevitably import by boat or plane in order to obtain supplies outside Guyana and thus meet its needs. The company, as a productive entity in French Guiana, contributes to endogenous economic development, one of the two major axes of the strategic orientation of the ERDF-ESF French Guiana Operational Programme 2021-2027. French Guiana’s geographical remoteness from sources of supply, internal isolation, a narrow market, competition from neighbouring countries which do not apply the same standards, and shortages of storage capacity are all obstacles to the expansion of the economy and constitute additional costs which penalise the competitiveness of businesses. In connection with the diagnosis carried out, the programme will contribute to the achievement of this specific objective by reducing the cost of imported raw materials, additional costs that penalise the competitiveness of companies, and thus support a fragile local economy.
