The European metropolis of Lille has been implementing a structured cycling policy for many years but wishes to go even further to become a real "bicycle metropolis" as part of a complete "bicycle ecosystem". Increasing the comfort and safety of cyclists and pedestrians is a priority to achieve the objectives of increasing travel in soft modes and ensuring better intermodality between active modes of travel. In the Porte d'Arras sector, the project consists of changing the distribution of public space in favour of soft modes, with the recalibration of traffic lanes, the creation of bidirectional bike paths, the development of sidewalks in accordance with PMR standards and the security of pedestrian crossings on the streets of the suburb of Arras, the rue de Jussieu and in front of the Jardin des Plantes in Lille. The route thus developed, and included in the metropolitan cycle plan, will be strengthened and will offer everyday cyclists and pedestrians an attractive and secure route, and an easy drawdown to the exchange pole constituted by the metro station Porte d'Arras.
