Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer - Calais - Recovery of dredging sediments: ecoproducts and experimental prototyping

As the port authority of the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer – Calais, the Hauts-de-France Region must ensure the navigability of access channels and port basins. Each year, maintenance dredging campaigns account for an average annual volume of 630 000 m3 immersed in offshore catchment areas close to the sites. In a new regulatory context (loi leroy) , sea catchment of sediments is becoming increasingly difficult. The objective of the project is to study the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of the recovery of dredged sediments: experimental development of innovative ecomaterials and ecoproducts based on port sediments from the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer - Calais. To achieve these objectives, the study focuses on sediments representative of the inexhaustible deposits usually encountered on the port. This work will lay the technical, environmental and economic foundations for the future development of one or more industrial and local circular economy sectors applied to dredging sediments. Associated with this objective, the identification of opportunities for the creation of local circular economy loops for the production of eco-products, will contribute to the resilience of the territory, by proposing innovations in order to anticipate disruptions related to climate change and minimize their effects at local level.
