Created in May 2000, Martinique Recyclage operates a tri-packaging-export center for packaging and valuable materials in Martinique (household packaging, paper, cardboard, newspapers / magazines / reviews, plastics, PVC, glass, WEEE, ...). The waste is collected in all the municipalities of the island and unloaded at the sorting center located in Ducos. The sorted waste is stored in alveoli before being packaged in bales for export in containers in recovery centers. This operation consists in alleviating the expensive costs of exporting waste containers as well as the import of equipment for packaging waste in bales, which are not from the EPR sector or supported by an eco-organization. The request for Freight Aid concerns the export of waste from Martinique Recycling to recovery / treatment centres in the European Union and outside existing EPR sectors whose recovery or treatment is not possible locally. The waste accepted and taken care of by Martinique Recycling is non-hazardous waste such as WEEE outside the EPR sector, banana sheaths, laminated, filmed glasses, windscreens, plaster/plaster scraps (until the commissioning of treatment equipment in Martinique in April 2023 and the creation of an EPR BTP sector on 17/06/2023).
