As part of its post-COVID Ambition 2026 strategy, and its CSR approach initiated in 2022, Montpellier Méditerranée Airport invests heavily in sustainable development solutions. The heating and air conditioning installations at Montpellier Méditerranée Airport are aging and show degraded performance. Heating is provided by boilers running on gas-oil, fossil fuels. The cold is produced by old equipment with high water consumption in a region under water stress in the summer. This has therefore pushed the airport to find more virtuous solutions, in particular less emitting greenhouse gases. Geothermal energy, a renewable energy that draws energy from groundwater, is an ideal solution to meet the needs of the airport. A network of water drawn from the water table (and then completely re-injected) as well as heat pumps will replace the current equipment. The work is planned for 2023, for commissioning in the winter of 2023-2024.
