The Hotel des Buttes is located in an exceptional natural site, a former glacial circus that is a high-quality landscape unit in the heart of the Balloon Nature Park. There is a peat bog and its droseras (carnivorous plants), permanent meadows and it is one of the last territories housing the great grouse, a mythical bird, itself a relic of the ice age. The site is being reconverted following the economic difficulties that led to its liquidation and the image of most mid-mountain resorts following the scarcity of snow. The history of the Leduc Family (100 years of history) and the champions who were trained on the slopes of the site (the Leduc sisters, Clément Noël, Olympic slalom champion for example) will be highlighted. The conversion of the site is part of an experimental approach that aims to give meaning and content to the ‘4 seasons’ concept, which today remains more of an objective to be achieved than a proven method and in an approach of complementarity with the resorts and destinations of the Hautes Vosges. The project will be carried out on the foundations of sustainable tourism in protected areas (European Charter) to move towards a sustainable management of tourism activities. The Hermitage site must now adapt to the new situation in order to imagine a new future.
