Since 1995, the Ballons des Vosges NRP has been involved in the implementation of Natura 2000 on its territory. For more than 15 years, the Ballons des Vosges NRP has operated sites for the drafting of objective documents, as the Natura 2000 network has been built. Since then, the NRP has retained the project management for the implementation of the objective documents. Today, there are 28 sites (24 Special Conservation Areas and 4 Special Protection Areas) that the Park hosts on 79,000 ha, representing nearly a quarter of its territory. 24 SACs and 2 SPAs concern the Grand-Est region (approximately 56 563 ha). The project deals with the animation of the 24 Natura 2000 sites managed by the Ballons des Vosges NRP, the continuation of the animation of the objective documents, their updating, but also the continuation of the consultation with local actors, in particular with the steering committees. The concrete actions identified locally and included in the validated objective documents will continue to be implemented. The animation is implemented internally by a team working on the project.
