Our current manufacturing industry relies heavily on the use of chemicals in production processes. Many of these chemicals are toxic and have a high CO2 footprint and energy consumption to produce. The industry faces the challenge of finding sustainable alternatives for the chemical industry. Rodenburg has developed a proof of concept of a new production process for a starch-based platform molecule for the future of the chemical biobased industry. The aim of this project is to develop and test the platform molecule production process, as well as the validation of applications at a number of launching customers. In the project, a pilot installation will be built and tested. Trial batches of the platform molecule are produced and optimal process parameters and KPIs are obtained. Samples of pilot batches for end users are also produced, analysed and tested in collaboration with Millvision. With the results, business case, mass balances and energy balance are updated and the investment in a demonstration plant is prepared. The intended final results of this project are: - Validated pilot installation for the production of the platform molecule. - Validated pilot batches in intended applications. - Reporting and documentation for further scaling up.
