Green EGCh

West Brabant is characterized by an extensive presence of the chemical, agri-food and energy sectors, which are currently largely focused on the use of fossil fuels and raw materials. These sectors offer a lot of employment opportunities in the region. However, on the one hand, the transition will lead to job losses in the fossil fuel industry and, on the other hand, new knowledge and skills will be required from employees in the field of green chemistry. Research and the training, upskilling and reskilling of sufficient staff in green chemistry are necessary conditions for achieving the climate transition and to overcome the regional socio-economic effects resulting from the transition. It is therefore important to stimulate and accelerate innovations in the connection and cooperation between education and business in relation to green chemistry. For this reason, the educational institutions Curio and Avans are intensifying cooperation with each other and the regional business community in the GreenEGCh project. In this way, they aim to provide the labour market in West Brabant with sufficient qualified professionals in the coming years, specifically for the raw materials, agricultural and food, and energy transition. The GreenEGCh project has the following objectives: 1. Research innovations in the raw materials, agricultural and food and energy transitions, in order to stimulate and accelerate the transitions in the region. 2. To train young people so that sufficient and qualitative employees are available for the raw materials, agriculture and food and energy transition in West Brabant. 3. Retraining and upskilling current employees, side entrants and people with a distance to the labour market (lifelong development) so that sufficient and qualitative employees are available for the raw materials, agriculture and food and energy transition in West Brabant. 4. Facilitate collaboration between education, research and business in green chemistry to find solutions to current issues from practice. In addition to ‘Project management (WP1)’ and ‘Promotional and publicity activities’ (WP2), the partners prepared the following work packages for this project: Work package 3: Connect learning communities and conduct practice-oriented research. By connecting learning communities and collaboration in practice-oriented research, the partners aim to: Accelerate innovative research in the region, take education to the next level, increase impact for businesses and contribute to regional future-oriented competitiveness. Work package 4: Creating hybrid learning environments. Through the further development and design of hybrid learning environments, the partners aim to create environments in which MBO and HBO students, lecturers, researchers and employees of companies come together to work, learn, research and experience (in connection with lecto/practorates). Work package 5: Training for the energy transition in green chemistry. By developing flexible training pathways, the partners aim to: strengthen cooperation between Curio, Avans, industry and public authorities in the development of Lifelong Development education and training pathways and train future staff (students) and retrain and upskill side entrants and/or jobseekers for the transition in green chemistry. The primary target groups in this project include students, teachers, workers in the fossil fuel industry (lifelong development), side entrants from other sectors and people with a distance to the labour market. In order to meet these target groups' needs, the aim is to realise a flexible and tailor-made training offer based on individual training needs and the possibly already existing knowledge/science. When the various target groups are more future-proof and sustainable in the field of work, their own social position is strengthened on the one hand and the economic position of the region on the other. This will create an agile and resilient workforce.
