In the Netherlands, a major step has been taken in making the plastics industry more sustainable. The government has decided that from 2027, producers of synthetic plastics will be obliged to use at least 25% recycled plastic. This percentage should rise to 30% by 2030. In addition, the extended product responsibility (UPV) has been in force since 1 July 2023, with which legislation now plays a significant role and contributes to regulating single-use plastics (hereinafter: SUP). This, too, is an important step towards promoting the circular economy and contributing to Europe’s climate-neutral ambitions. In the context of making the chemical industry more sustainable, Chemelot, located in South Limburg, plays an important role.
