Zuyd Flex Tech

The transition to a green chemical industry is one of the biggest challenges facing the South Limburg region. A raw material and energy transition must take place with a focus on an energy-neutral, circular and green chemical economy. Based on a strategic exploration in South Limburg carried out in 2022, it emerged that, according to industry, the availability of well-trained staff is one of the most important conditions for a successful transition to the green one. Based on this need of the business community, project Zuyd Flex Tech has been set up. The project aims to bring education and the labour market closer together by setting up a business-oriented vocational training infrastructure, necessary to teach the necessary knowledge and skills to (future) professionals of companies in the green chemistry sector. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, CHILL, Brightlands Smart Service Campus and Coöperatie Leo Career are jointly committed to achieving this goal. Regional business in the green chemistry sector has the following training needs: • Connection with regard to form; The LLO education is often still diploma-oriented and arranged through long regular education trajectories. On the contrary, companies indicate that they need accessible education that can be followed independently of location and time. • Connection with respect to content; Companies indicate that education in terms of content no longer matches what companies need. Due to the climate transition and the transition to green chemistry, many technological developments are taking place in products, processes and services. Professionals need more, and other, knowledge about materials, components, efficient production processes, recycling, software and how data can be used to monitor and optimize processes. The current HBO education has knowledge and skills regarding these subjects not yet sufficiently embedded in the curriculum. • Technical knowledge gap; Companies indicate that a technical knowledge gap has arisen and the knowledge about inclusiveness needs to be increased. International professionals and Dutch professionals need more and different knowledge and skills because of working in an increasingly international context. In addition, this also requires more insights and knowledge from professionals in inclusiveness and gender differences. In order to respond to the above needs, Zuyd Flex Tech is committed to the following main activities: 1. Attracting and retaining diverse HBO talent in the green chemistry sector. This includes research on the use of diverse talent at HBO level and which bottlenecks are experienced in the field of education/experience knowledge and inclusiveness. Based on the results, a recruitment campaign for HBO training opportunities focused on diverse talent will be set up and an onboarding program will be developed to reduce the technical gap and increase insights about inclusiveness. We focus on various target groups within initial education as well as working professionals. 2. The realization of a new educational model appropriate to the green chemistry sector. The educational model is easily accessible to professionals and is modular, flexible and adaptive. 15 new teaching modules are being developed on topics in the green chemistry sector. These teaching modules are certifiable (micro-credentials) and in the project period at least 50 professionals will follow at least one of the modules. 3. The implementation of 40 innovation issues per project year from SMEs and start-ups by students (160 per project year), teachers (50 per project year) and lecturers to promote knowledge and competence development. The insights and outcomes are shared with professionals (200), (SME) companies and members of the campus communities to promote knowledge development (LLO) in 'See this' meetings at CHILL and the Brightlands Smart Service Campus.
