Worldwide, the demand for (primary) raw materials is increasing. For a sustainable future, it is necessary to use raw materials more economically and smartly. The Dutch government works together with industry, knowledge institutes, nature and environmental organizations, governments, trade unions, financial institutions and other civil society organizations to deal with raw materials more economically and smartly. The objective: a fully circular economy in the Netherlands by 2050. In order to achieve this objective, it is important that investments are made until 2050 in new technology that makes it possible to deal with raw materials in a circular manner and, in addition, to minimise greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2.
