The Northern Netherlands is an agricultural region. Starch apples are grown on a large scale in the northern Netherlands and they play a crucial role in the economy. Starch is an important, plant-based building block of foods. For 2,200 Groningen and Drenthe arable farmers, cultivation is the most important source of income. The changes to the so-called building plan adapted for starch potato cultivation therefore have major consequences for the sector and chain.
