The increasing world population and the growing prosperity are causing a sharp increase in the demand for (animal) proteins. Increasing meat production in the conventional way will not be part of the solution. The reasons for this are that livestock farming makes a significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, consumes a relatively large amount of water and leads to deforestation and soil erosion. A transition to an innovative way of food production in which the entire food chain is redesigned is therefore of great importance. The main source of protein in the feed composition for chickens, pigs, aquaculture and pet food are fish, soya and ingrediënts resulting from the slaughter circuit (poultrymeal, bone meal, etc.). Ingrediënts such as soy and fish are characterized by the lack of sustainability and de
dependence on imports. In addition, the production of soybean één is one of the main causes of deforestation.
