ARTIS aims to become the first fossil-free, monumental location in the city centre of Amsterdam. With 1.4 million visitors per year, ARTIS wants to promote sustainability on a large scale and stimulate the transition to natural gas-free and sustainable living. This is in line with Amsterdam's policy plan to connect the heat networks of large energy consumers in Amsterdam East and to connect the surrounding homes to them. In order to achieve this goal, various possibilities were investigated on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam. The Opportunities for West subsidy will be used to expand the TEO-WKO in the ARTIS-Park, so that the Plantagebuurt can also be connected. This installation saves 1,593 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to the consumption of 737 households.
