In the Netherlands, 30 to 40% of the existing roofs of commercial buildings are not suitable for installing solar panels. The current solar panels are too heavy for these roofs. There is currently no solution on the market to provide these roofs with lightweight solar panels. In addition, the current glass/aluminium solar panels are not circular; if they end up in the waste phase after 25 years of use, they are not recyclable. In this project, a large format, lightweight integrated PV roof part is developed, including associated production technology and machines to make the PV roof part waterproof and to connect the individual parts to each other. The roof part can be placed in one step instead of two steps now. This greatly increases the possibilities for the decentralised production of renewable electricity in places where this is now impossible, and strengthens the southern Dutch economy with new knowledge and technology in the field of the next generation of solar roof panels.
