Limburg SMEs naturally gas-free, first Dutch demonstration STEAMpumps

In the food sector there are traditionally steam boilers. In addition to heating, they are used as a process medium. Steam boilers are robust, easy to operate and cheap. Only they work on natural gas. Finding an alternative to the gas-fired steam boiler is a high social priority. A solution for sustainable steam production is a steam heat pump; STEAMpump. STEAMpump has been developed as a plug-and-play to replace a gas-fired steam boiler one on one. In this project, the STEAMpump technology is applied in two artisanal production processes in order to gain experience with the behaviour of the STEAMpump in practice. The potential in the food sector is that by using a STEAMpump around 50-60% is saved on energy use and 45% on CO2 emissions. Specifically, the STEAMpump must show that: residual heat of approximately 30°C is upgraded to useful steam; without residual heat, the STEAMpump can run on outdoor air as a source and the process cooperates flawlessly.
