Arvina

About 1 in 7 women get breast cancer. In the Netherlands, these are approximately 18,000 patients per year. In 2 vd 3 patients partial or complete mastectomy is required. There is a huge need for an effective breast reconstruction method that can contribute to an improved quality of life of breast cancer patients without physical or psychological discomfort Fat transplantation is an emerging technique as a reconstruction method, using the patient's own fat. In the long run, unwanted volume reductions occur, as 50-60% of all transplanted fat cells die within a few months. VivArt-X develops Arvina, a synthetically degradable biomaterial as a superior solution for breast reconstructive surgery in women after breast cancer. A temporary matrix will be formed for transplanted fat cells so that the cells can attach and survive the transplant. As a result, complications are prevented and fewer surgical interventions are required.
