Paulownia: The Climate Tree to Build

The construction sector is facing a growing challenge; the need to make the transition to a circular and biobased construction and infrastructure sector. The use of renewable and bio-based materials in construction (‘land-to-premises’) is one of the central pillars of this transition. ‘Paulownia: The Climate Tree to Build’ is an innovative project aimed at the local propagation and valorisation of the Paulownia tree for circular applications in residential and infrastructure construction. The raw material transition is central to this. Project participants from the entire value chain are involved in this project. They focus on the development of suitable cultivars, propagation techniques and the application of large-scale processing and production of sustainable construction and sheet material from Paulownia. Within this project, we will go from innovative testing to scaling up. Participants will ensure a shortening/closing of the chain, by scaling up the local propagation and cultivation of Paulownia.
