The SIGHT project focuses on the development and market introduction of an innovative miniature implant for the surgical treatment of the eye disease glaucoma. In glaucoma, vision slowly decreases due to loss of nerve fibers in the optic nerve, often due to excessive eye pressure. If left untreated, this causes more and more parts of the field of vision to fall out and the disease can lead to severe visual impairment or blindness. With more than 80 million patients worldwide, 10% of whom eventually go blind, glaucoma is a serious condition. Our implant, called Glaucoma RING, is designed to slow the progression of glaucoma and thereby prevent blindness.
