Industry 4.0 - Driven Quality Assurance for Additive Manufacturing and 3D Concrete Printing

3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) is a technique in which objects are constructed layer by layer in 3D. It offers advantages that are not possible with conventional manufacturing techniques. Zavhy has developed two key techniques for 3DCP. Fibre reinforced (FRED: Fiber Reinforcement Entrainment Device) and Cable Reinforcement (RED: Reinforcement Entrainment Device) technology. This allows concrete structures to be printed faster, stronger and more durable. A big advantage is that 75% less cement is needed in concrete than with regular poured concrete. The innovation is now on TRL6. 3DCP industry with two major challenges that limit social adoption and scale-up. These are 1) first-time-right production under varying conditions and 2) validation and certification of 3D printed objects without requiring destructive testing (scale 1:1). The solution to this problem is to develop a numerical model that can predict the quality of concrete structures based on data.
