Optical fiber sensors have the potential to drastically transform care. These small robust wires can be integrated into textiles such as sheets and thus have the ability to map multiple vital body functions simultaneously and completely in real time. The aim of the consortium (consisting of project partners VitalWear, VanderHoekPhotonics, Interfil, ZKS, Orikami and Q Care) is therefore to further develop the necessary (photonics) technologies. Specifically, this concerns the optical fibers, the spinning techniques, the algorithms and the (AI) platform. In this project, the optical fiber sensors are validated in the prevention of pressure ulcers, an example of a state of care that can be mapped. On the basis of these clinical studies, the consortium wants to demonstrate the effect, after which a roll-out will take place within various hospitals, care homes and rehabilitation centers.
