Artificial Intelligence for Reproducible Analysis of Tumor Growth

Radboudumc has done groundbreaking research and shown that artificial intelligence can help pathologists in complex analysis of tumor tissue. With this project, the partners want to further develop the software into a CE-certified product for the European market. If a patient has a tumor, a piece of tumor tissue is removed so that the pathologist can see how severe the tumor is. This is a crucial part and determines what treatment is needed for the patient. The analysis of the tissue is complex and, due to an increasing shortage of specialists, is in many cases carried out by only one person. With the arrival of the new EU regulations (IVDR) in 2022, it is necessary to demonstrate that the software is reliable and safe. This means that more evidence is needed to show that the algorithm is safe and has a clear added value for the patient. This means that more needs to be tested and proven in the development phase.
