Multi-use of forests represents an opportunity for increased sustainable use of forests in the north, increased processing rates and increased rural development. Increased networking and knowledge sharing is an opportunity for the development and capacity building of multi-use in the North. Since the forest activities in many cases extend across county boundaries, this preliminary study is a collaboration between the regional forest programs in Västerbotten and Norrbotten counties. We intend to apply for funding for a feasibility study to mobilise multi-use actors and specify activities to be carried out in a large-scale project. This preliminary study maps the existing multi-use companies in the intended project area and examines what an implementation project can look like to promote the development of and collaboration among multi-use companies.
