Skellefteå is in the midst of an extraordinary urban transformation driven by the green industry's transition. The growing demand from industry for rail transport makes it important to be able to switch between different modes of transport such as from road to rail and shipping, as well as between shipping and rail. By developing Port of Skellefteå's ability to handle transhipment between rail and shipping with a focus on intermodality, the project contributes to an improved infrastructure for cargo handling and the opportunity for reduced climate impact. The project leads to the development of sustainable, climate-adapted, intermodal mobility throughout the region, which creates the conditions for sustainable freight transport. This means that inequalities within the country are reduced by increasing opportunities for business development and employment. The project delivers improved infrastructure and new opportunities for industry to use transport modes combined for the best possible economy and climate benefit.
