The central route is of great importance from a regional, national and international perspective. The playing field for transporting people and goods in the central Nordic region is changing. Now the Meråker Line is being electrified on the Norwegian side, while a logistics park is being built in Sundsvall. In order to make use of the potential, work needs to continue on capacity-enhancing measures on the Mittbanan railway as well as further efforts that lead to increased accessibility and shorter travel times. The project's investments will contribute to increased capacity and redundancy, increased traffic safety and speed on Mittbanan. The project includes efforts to promote the transfer of goods from road to rail, e.g. by arranging dialogues on the establishment of a transhipment centre around Östersund and by making efforts to promote the use of the new logistics park in Sundsvall. The project also includes efforts to improve passenger transport, such as dialogue and investigations on interchanges and mobility services.
