The overall goal of the project is to contribute to the development of a long-term sustainable and competitive metal industry in Västerbotten. This means increased conversion to fossil-free energy and raw material use, increased circularity through increased use of secondary materials and a holistic analysis of the conditions for the production, distribution and use of hydrogen for industrial transition and competitiveness. The project is carried out in collaboration between IVL, Swerim, Luleå University of Technology, the metal industry in Västerbotten, the regional actors Region Västerbotten and the County Administrative Board, municipalities, municipal companies and research institutes. The aim is for new knowledge and research to contribute to a better understanding of opportunities and challenges for development paths towards efficient use of resources and increased sustainability in the value chains for metals. The metal industry in Västerbotten is of great importance for the fulfilment of Sweden's national climate targets as well as the EU's energy and climate targets (Paris Agreement).
