Circular Biogas Dalarna

The green transition needed to fight climate change has increased the focus on how resources can be used more resource-efficiently and circularly. The preliminary study draws attention to how organic waste and residues (substrates) from the food industry, agriculture and green industries through biogas production can be reused as electricity, heat, biofertilizer and contribute to a regional circular economy. Individual initiatives have been taken in Dalarna County, but the overall picture of the impact of biogas on the circular process in the value chain is not yet clear. The pre-study aims to map the substrate supply in the county and provide suggestions on the potentials that exist in the biogas circular value chain. There are many small and medium-sized companies in the county with access to substrates, but several of them are too small-scale to invest in their own biogas plants and need to cooperate with other actors. The preliminary study lays the foundation for future major projects that can long-term support the construction of biogas systems in Dalarna.
