Climate transition project Slite CCS

Heidelberg Materials Cement Sweden will convert the production of cement at the plant in Slite with the goal of reaching more than zero net emissions by 2030 and enabling a carbon sink. In addition to the increased use of biofuel and the increased use of additives in cement to reduce the proportion of limestone, this objective shall be achieved through the establishment of a full-scale CO2 capture plant enabling the capture of up to 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 per year. The overall project is in an intensive development phase where a feasibility study has recently been completed and the next phase of project development, the so-called FEED (Front End Enginering Design) phase, has been initiated. Funding is now being sought to develop a more detailed planning basis for CCS preparatory operations. The activities consist of management and planning of energy efficiency, demolition/relocation and investment in electrical infrastructure in the form of a gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear.
