Sweden will switch to a fossil-free energy system where several different types of power will interact to solve established climate goals. Some of these types of power are of an intermittent (variable) nature such as wind and solar power. A challenging situation arises if the intermittent forces do not contribute with effect (for example, when there is no wind and winter darkness) and this cannot be compensated by imports. One solution to this is different types of energy storage, for example with hydrogen. In addition, hydrogen gas can be used in other applications such as: transport, industrial processes, as raw materials, and in industrial and urban symbiosis. This pre-study will show the conditions and comparative advantages of hydrogen and the hydrogen economy in eastern central Sweden.
