The Swedish public sector's consumption accounts for emissions equivalent to four tonnes of CO2 per person per year. Every day, our municipalities' buyers and procurers make choices that make a difference to the climate. For example, are workwear made from recycled textiles selected and is the supplier responsible for repairing if something goes south? Or would we rather buy cheaply without an eye on production methods, wear out and throw away? In the project, Västervik and Kalmar are gathering forces to increase knowledge among buyers, purchasers and companies about the climate impact of products and the conditions for reuse and recycling. New forms of circularity market dialogue are being developed and tested. Suppliers are being prepared for increased requirements and municipalities are becoming more accurate in designing procurement documents and ensuring that concluded agreements are followed up. The overall goal is that public procurement in Kalmar County's 12 municipalities and within SMÖ actively contribute to the transition to fossil-free, resource-efficient and circular production of goods and services.
