The goal of the pre-study is to create a knowledge base about new conditions for the tourism industry that will result from future business establishment in Östersund. The knowledge base will enable proactive action for SMEs in the hospitality industry that leads to the development and streamlining of services and products. The activities include external analysis of other cities in the same situation, knowledge gathering about how the establishment of companies in Östersund will affect the tourism industry, formulation of solutions that take advantage of business opportunities and dissemination of the results of the preliminary study. The target group of the pre-study is tourism companies throughout the county. Through better insight into how business start-ups affect the tourism industry's infrastructure and services, the feasibility study contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 with more sustainable industries. Business resilience and sustainability linked to changing conditions contribute to new markets and jobs, as well as more efficient and equitable use of resources.
