Need-driven scaling-up and innovation platform for green transition and reindustrialisation in the mining and metals industries

The project will provide an expanded research infrastructure in the county through new pilot and demo capacity in the metal industry. Within the project, a new 600m2 demonstration hall will be built to enable the scaling up of new technologies for the metal industry's sustainable transition to circularity and carbon neutrality. The project consolidates the region's leading position in the industrial transition through increased research and innovation opportunities. The hall is being built integrated into Swerim's existing research infrastructure in Luleå, which provides good synergies. The research infrastructure, which will be completed in the summer of 2025, will be an open and flexible facility that can be used by both national and international technology developers who need an independent upscaling demonstration as part of their risk minimization for the implementation of new technologies. The project is a springboard for generating both EU research and industrial business in accordance with Agenda 2030.
