Handshake Kronoberg

Employers today have employees with a foreign background with varying knowledge (often low) of the Swedish language, as well as varying knowledge of what is important from the employer's perspective in order to be able to maintain a job and develop in the professional role in the long term. There is a great need to develop the skills of these employees in order to increase the quality of work, but also to achieve greater inclusion and a better working environment in the workplace. Seven municipalities in Kronoberg County collaborate with IF Metall during 2024-2026 in the project "Handslag Kronoberg" which provides employers and employees with initiatives such as language training, training in social codes, knowledge of labour market requirements and regulations. For IF Metall's participants, the action shall result in validation in Industri BAS or equivalent industry validation. Further efforts include coaching training for employers, information sessions for the entire workplace and support for employers to design long-term competence plans for the target group. The project is characterized by Horizontal principles and will work for increased gender equality, accessibility and non-discrimination. The actions should lead to an increased participation of the target group in other regular skills development activities, such as vocational training. Ultimately, this means that employees can contribute more effectively to the company/employer achieving higher goals. The project has winners on many different levels: *The individual, who becomes more secure in his or her professional role and in his or her role as co-worker and colleague, and thus gets a more stable foundation to stand on in his or her professional life and strengthens his or her position in the labour market. *The employer gets the skills they need and employees who feel good and function well in their workplace. Employers will also gain increased knowledge about municipalities' working methods and the support and help available for recruitment and skills development. This creates the conditions for increased competitiveness and sustainability for the future. *The attractiveness of the individual municipality is growing, at the same time as business departments have access to durable, powerful efforts in the form of tailor-made efforts from adult education that can be offered to employers in addition to other services. *The project will be a catalyst for increased regional cooperation in skills supply issues related to those born abroad who do not meet the demands of the labour market in terms of, among other things, the Swedish language. The project can be implemented with support from the Swedish ESF Council and co-financing from participating employers. The project will run from 2 September 2024 to 30 August 2026.
