Skills development health care

Region Jämtland Härjedalen faces significant challenges in terms of competence provision in healthcare. There is a lack of sufficient skills to cope with the increased need for care, especially in areas such as trauma care, mental health problems in children and adolescents, and to respond to the increased need for skills for assistant nurses and the requirements in sterile technology. There is a clear link between the skills shortage and the quality of care provided. The level of education and the application of professional knowledge in clinical practice directly affect the quality of care. Region Jämtland Härjedalen's goal is that no patient should be brought a health care injury from the region's operations. Healthcare professionals have identified specific areas where shortages are most acute and where enhanced skills-enhancing efforts are needed. In addition, the region has a unique demographic profile and geographical challenge, which affects healthcare needs. With a large area and small population, spread throughout the area, the region has an unusually low population density of only 3 inhabitants per square kilometre. This places special demands on healthcare services, especially when those with the highest need for care often live or injure themselves furthest from the hospital. To address these challenges, Region Jämtland Härjedalen needs to develop and implement a comprehensive upskilling project. The project aims to increase the competence and safety of the staff in order to increase patient safety and reduce the number of care injuries. This will be achieved through targeted training efforts in the areas of trauma care, mental health, sterile technology and nursing education. The main interventions include internationally established courses such as Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), as well as training in Crew Resource Management (CRM). In addition, a strengthened professional introduction for assistant nurses and efforts to increase competence in sterile technology are planned. Mental health professionals will also gain the necessary basic knowledge to better manage today's healthcare needs. By investing in skills development of existing staff and ensuring that all healthcare professionals have access to the necessary training, Region Jämtland Härjedalen strives to create a robust and qualified workforce that can meet the unique challenges of the region and provide the highest quality care. The objectives are to improve the quality of care, increase patient safety, and ensure a more sustainable and efficient healthcare service for all residents and visitors in the region. The project will also result in the goal of increased job security in the service, improved experience of their work environment and increased satisfaction with their employers and there with increased willingness to stay longer in service at Region Jämtland Härjedalen.
