Multi-skilled team for long-term beneficiaries

The Swedish Work Life Administration (ALF) has been working successfully for several years to reduce financial aid reception in the City of Borås. This work the administration wants to develop regarding the group that is in or at risk of ending up in a long-term dependence on aid. Many of these people have medical, psychological and/or social adaptation difficulties that prevent them from entering the labour market. Adding factors such as gender, age, educational level or descent can make the limitations even more complex. There is also a link between social and economic challenges and long-term dependency on aid. Those who have a long-term dependence on aid often have several interventions from different authorities. Without effective, coordinated and sustainable rehabilitation solutions, they risk being permanently excluded. In order to reduce exclusion, new methods and cooperation between authorities and organizations are needed to guide and strengthen individuals to work training, employment, education, rehabilitation or other adequate support. With the project, ALF wants to create a multi-skilled team consisting of social workers, occupational therapists, labour market managers, doctors and psychologists. The aim is to offer individually adapted rehabilitation and work preparation measures to 120 people in the City of Borås who have or are at risk of ending up in a long-term dependence on assistance. The team will offer the opportunity for an individual resource inventory to assess work ability and future work opportunities. Those who are deemed to have resources for work will be offered individually adapted interventions and activities within the project. Those who are not considered relevant for work rehabilitation will be recommended by the multi-skilled team to plan other interventions. The project is expected to lead to the development of a working model for work-oriented rehabilitation, strengthened collaboration between actors, in the long term reduce the costs of financial assistance and contribute to social sustainability. The aim is also to disseminate and share knowledge and experience from the project to other municipalities and regions, nationally and internationally, in order to continue to inspire and develop the work of all our citizens.
